Lighting Controller and HID Light Dimming

Light Dimming & HID Lighting Controller

Government & corporate facilities that need to reduce their fixed expenses have turned to the VoltMiser Lighting Controller system for HID dimming. The HID dimming system not only provides a fast ROI but provides the most important factor: the reduction of emissions and maintaining sustainability of the environment. VoltMiser Lighting Controller has reduced energy usage on lighting by up to 25% in supermarkets, retail stores, ball fields, warehouses, parking lots and more.
HID Light Dimming

What is HID Light Dimming?

HID Light dimming for HID and HPS lights is the reduction of power to the lamp ballast by means of a multi-tap auto transformer that is connected to a dedicated lighting panel. The VoltMiser HID Lighting Controller uses patented technology to automatically select the mult-tap power reductions on the auto transformer and reduce the voltage to the lighting panel by 13%, 18% and 25%. This reduction in voltage means the lights are using less energy and the ballasts are running cooler since they perform better on reduced voltage. Lumen reduction is not noticeable when proper power reduction is performed.

How Does VoltMiser Work?

The concept of HID lamp dimming is very simple but effective. Using an autotransformer the patented VoltMiser Lighting Controller can select up to 4 power levels to achieve the reduced power level. By having multiple power levels, the system can work in conjunction with the existing building automation system schedule or photo sensor to optimize savings during light harvesting or meet a specific lumen light level for the facility. The autotransformer is custom designed to provide a perfect sine wave to the ballast and lamp ensuring the max life of the lamp. In addition, the use of the autotransformer does not add any harmonics to the electrical system. How Does VoltMiser Work

Features of the VoltMiser HID Lighting Controller

System Protection

The VoltMiser HID dimming system is equipped with various monitoring for light level, voltage drop, phase loss, & lamp warm-up detection. If the voltage has dropped below 10% the HID dimmer will automatically adjust the system to the previous voltage level preventing the system from reducing the power to the HID lamp beyond the specifications of the lamp and ballast manufacturers.

Phase Loss Protection

In the event of a phase-loss from the utility, the VoltMiser HID dimmer automatically forces the system to high mode preventing the phase loss from damaging the VoltMiser system.

Automatic Power Adjustment

For scheduled power reduction the VoltMiser HID Lighting Controlleraccepts dry-contact input that can be interfaced with a scheduler device or building automation system.

Lamp Warm Up

To ensure that proper lamp warm-up time is met, the HID dimming system will operate the lamps at full power for a period of 15 minutes before transitioning to the selected power reduction level.

User Interface

The PLC which controls the operation of the system is an industrial grade module that has an easy to use interface that displays the current power level (Hi / Medium / Low / Low2) as well as the light level if equipped with a photocell.

Photo-cell Control

The VoltMiser HID dimmer system is can be equipped with a photo-cell to measure the light level in the facility. The VoltMiser automatically adjusts the power reduction to maintain the desired light level.

Zone Power Reduction Scheduling

The EG Scheduler can be connected to any VoltMiser HID Lighting Controller to provide zone dimming control from a centralized system.

Demand Control & ESS Monitoring

All VoltMiser systems can be forced to maxim power reduction for demand control. In addition with the ESS energy monitoring system you can review kW reduction savings and provide reports to management.
